Artist and sculptor Michael Kalish worked for nearly three years to produce the 22-foot high portrait of Muhammad Ali.

Kalish used 1,300 punching bags, 2,500 pounds of aluminum pipe and over six miles of steel cable to create the public installation. The portrait of Ali can only be seen when standing in a particular spot, but the effect of the project is pretty awesome from any angle.

The artist, who’s well known for his use of license plates as a medium, worked with architecture firm, Oyler Wu, to develop the idea and construct the monument. The larger-than-life portrait, titled reALIze, will be unveiled at L.A. Live in Los Angeles on March 25.
